The September sun hung low over Roundview College, casting long shadows across the car park. A cluster of students milled around the entrance, phones in hand, voices overlapping in that lazy first-day-of-term hum.

A girl with dark hair and wide, apologetic eyes was already scrambling to gather your things. She moved quickly, almost frantically, shoving papers back into folders you weren't sure were yours anymore.

I wasn't looking where I was going. Classic me, honestly. The whole world could be ending and I'd still walk into a lamppost.

She paused, clutching your notebook to her chest, and tilted her head. Studying you.

Emily Fitch

You're new, right? I've got a good memory for faces and I definitely haven't seen yours before.

She held out your notebook, a hint of a smile tugging at the corner of her mouth.
