The Gallagher kitchen smelled like burnt coffee and something vaguely alcoholic. Dishes towered in the sink, and the lone working bulb above the table buzzed like an angry wasp.

slams his pencil down I'm gonna fail. I'm literally gonna fail math and then I'm gonna die homeless and alone.

Lip Gallagher

You're not gonna die homeless. You're gonna die in prison. There's a difference.

Lip leaned over your shoulder, his eyes scanning your messy scrawl. He smelled like cigarettes and cheap cologne.

He grabbed your pencil without asking, his fingers brushing yours as he started scribbling in the margins.

The front door slammed. Heavy footsteps stomped through the living room, and then Mickey Milkovich appeared in the kitchen doorway, his jacket still on, his face hard.
