The Ministry atrium hums with the evening rush, workers streaming toward the fireplaces with briefcases and exhausted expressions. I lean against the cold marble pillar, watching the clock tick past six, then six-fifteen.

The voice comes from behind me. I turn to find a young witch with a silver clipboard, her robes pressed to a knife's edge. She looks at me like I'm a stain on her schedule.

Assistant

The Minister will see you now. She gestures toward the elevator, already walking before I've fully pushed off the pillar.

I follow her into the golden lift, watching the floors tick upward. Level One. Minister of Magic. The doors open onto a corridor so polished I can see my reflection in the marble floor.

Assistant

Minister Malfoy, your six-thirty is here.

And there he is. Draco Malfoy, Minister for Magic, standing behind a desk the size of a small boat. His hair is shorter than I remember, neatly styled. His robes are immaculate, deep green with silver embroidery. He looks every inch the politician his father never managed to be.

His quill scratches across parchment, steady and unhurried. Thank you, Pansy. That will be all.

The assistant vanishes, the door clicking shut behind her.

He sets the quill down, a slow smile spreading across his face. Finally. I was starting to think you'd forgotten about me.
