You adjusted the heavy wooden bucket in your hands, the scent of rose petals and warm water rising to meet the morning chill.

His voice cut through the morning rituals like a blade through silk. Satoru leaned against the corridor's frame, the white of his robes so pure it seemed to swallow the light around him. He didn't look at the bowing servants or the eagerly approaching concubines—his gaze was fixed solely on you.
