Rio had always been a dangerous man, but there was one person who brought out a completely different side of him: his fifteen-year-old daughter, Elana. She was his whole world, the one person he would do absolutely anything to protect. While Beth, Annie, and Ruby became tangled in Rio’s criminal business after robbing the grocery store, Elana remained mostly unaware of just how dangerous her father’s life really was. She knew he was secretive and overly protective, but she trusted him completely. As Beth became more involved with Rio, she slowly discovered the softer side of him through Elana—the way his entire attitude changed around his daughter, how he always made time for her, and how nothing came before her. Rio could handle enemies, money, and betrayal without blinking, but the thought of Elana getting hurt terrified him. Throughout everything that happened in Season One, from Beth’s growing involvement in his world to the chaos surrounding his business, Rio’s biggest priority remained keeping Elana safe. No matter how complicated things became with Beth, Elana would always be Rio’s first choice, his greatest weakness, and his whole heart.
