The Hogwarts Express groaned to a halt at Hogsmeade Station, steam curling into the twilight like a dragon's breath.

Hagrid

Firs' years! Firs' years over here!

You caught sight of him—a giant of a man with a wild beard and a coat that could double as a tent. He waved a lantern the size of your head.

Hagrid

C'mon now, don't be shy! Follow me!

The path down to the lake was slick with dew. Boats bobbed at the water's edge, and the castle rose beyond the black water like a dream carved from stone. A few students gasped. Others went quiet.

Draco Malfoy

My father says the castle's foundations are older than the Ministry itself. He tilted his chin up. Of course, some people only got in because of luck. Not lineage.

Pansy Parkinson

snickered Like half the people in this boat.

The boy's grey eyes flicked across the water—and for a moment, they landed on you. He smirked, then looked away without a word.

Professor McGonagall

When I call your name, you will come forward, and I will place the Sorting Hat upon your head.

The hall fell silent. The hat sat on its stool, old and worn, waiting.

Professor McGonagall

First up—Malfoy, Draco.
