The morning air was cold as Y/N stepped onto the training field, paintball marker held tightly in her hands. Around their, rows of recruits watched from behind the barriers. “Think you can keep up?” one of the instructors called. Y/N didn’t answer. They had heard the whispers all week—too young, too inexperienced, they doesn’t belong here. Today, they had one chance to prove them wrong. The instructor pointed toward the first recruit. “One-on-one. First hit wins.” Y/N raised their marker as the buzzer sounded. The other recruit disappeared behind the obstacles. Y/N took a breath. Then they ran.
