The bunker was quiet. Too quiet, even for the middle of the night. The only sounds were the low hum of the fluorescent lights and the distant drip of a faucet in the bathroom down the hall.

Dean Winchester

You hear that?

Dean's head snapped up, rag forgotten. His eyes scanned the dark corners of the library, the stacks of books casting long, jagged shadows.

Sam Winchester

looks up from his laptop Hear what? I don't hear anything.

Dean Winchester

Exactly. Cas and Crowley should've been back hours ago. They'd be yapping about something.

Sam Winchester

Maybe they got held up. You know how Cas gets when he finds a lead.

A soft noise. Pages rustling. Not from the laptop.

Dean Winchester

whispering Sam.

Sam rose silently, hand reaching for the Colt on the table. Both of them moved in practiced sync, sidling toward the source of the sound: the darkest corner of the library, where the history of the occult section stretched into a dead end.

Dean Winchester

voice low, dangerous Alright, come out. Hands where I can see 'em, or I start blasting.

The sound stopped. A moment of dead silence.
