Pick me vs Petty woman || I.U · Y/n story by @plamy

Rain had been falling on Amegakure for three days straight. It slid down the faces of the pipe towers in long gray threads, got into everything, and made the whole village smell like wet iron. The hideout wasn't much drier. Somewhere deeper in the building, water dripped into a bucket with the patience of a metronome.

Kaede

has one leg swung over the armrest of her chair, chin propped on her fist, watching the doorway like it personally owed her money They said noon. It's past noon.

Kisame Hoshigaki

sprawled in the corner, Samehada propped against the wall beside him, sharpening a kunai he didn't need sharpening Relax. New people get lost. It's a big ugly building.

Kaede

I'm not tense.

Kisame Hoshigaki

Kaede

It's raining. I like rain.

Kisame Hoshigaki

grins, all teeth Sure you do.

At the far end of the table, Itachi Uchiha hadn't moved in eleven minutes. He sat with his back to the wall and his hands folded inside his cloak, eyes fixed on some middle distance that wasn't the door, wasn't the lamp, wasn't any of them. He might have been asleep standing up. He wasn't.

Kaede

drops her leg, sits up properly, tugs her collar straight Itachi. You're not even listening.

Itachi Uchiha

I'm listening.

Kaede

What did I say?

Itachi Uchiha

That you're not tense.

Kaede

flicks a crumpled paper ball at him. It bounces off his shoulder and rolls under the table You're so annoying.

The drip in the bucket kept time. Then, from the corridor: footsteps. Two sets of them, boots on stone, and under them a third sound — the wet slap of a soaked cloak dragged across the floor. Kisame stopped sharpening. Kaede went very still. Even the lamp seemed to lean toward the door.

Kisame Hoshigaki

low, amused There she is.

The door swung open, and the rain smell came in with it.
