The hallway outside Hawkins High buzzed with the usual chaos—lockers groaning, sneakers squeaking, voices layering into a dull roar. Micah Wheeler leaned against the trophy case, arms crossed loose, watching Mike laugh at something Dustin said down the hall.

I’m just saying, there’s something off about it.

The voice cut through. Familiar. Smug.

You ever notice how those D&D kids are always the same? Weird clothes, pale, hiding in basements pretending they’re wizards or whatever.

Jason Carver. Clutching his basketball jersey, voice sharp enough to draw attention. A few underclassmen hovered nearby, laughing on cue.

Micah didn’t move. Her face stayed smooth. But her focus narrowed hard on the back of his head.
