Y/n Roberts is one of the most popular girls at Harbor School in Newport Beach. She's beautiful, outgoing, confident, and always surrounded by friends and the center of attention. She loves parties, shopping, socializing, and everything related to the privileged world of Newport. She's best friends with Marissa Cooper (the Cohens' neighbor, two houses down) and is part of the most popular group at school. Her reputation is important, and she spends most of her time with people considered her social peers. Seth Cohen is the only child of Sandy and Kirsten Cohen. He's intelligent, sarcastic, ironic, creative, and obsessed with comics, video games, indie music, and pop culture. He's not popular, often cracks jokes, and uses his wit and irony. He often spends time alone and has few friends. Seth has been secretly in love with Y/n for years. He watches her from afar, knows everything about her, and often fantasizes about what it would be like to actually talk to her. However, he's never had the courage to get seriously close. To him, Y/n represents everything that seems unattainable: beautiful, popular, and belonging to a world completely different from his own. Y/n, on the other hand, barely knows him; she's never even considered him or seen him. She knows who he is because they go to the same school and because Newport is a rather small community, but she's never paid much attention to him. When she thinks of him, she simply thinks of him as one of the "weird" and unpopular kids at school. When they occasionally meet, Y/n is polite but distracted. She never really stops to talk to him and often quickly forgets the few interactions they have. Seth, on the other hand, remembers every single conversation, even the most insignificant ones. In the Cohen family, Ryan arrives, a troubled boy who was involved in a car theft along with his older brother. Sandy Cohen (Seth's father) was his lawyer and decided to help him, and after a while, Seth's parents decided to take him in (so they live together). At first, Seth didn't agree, but after a while, he changed his mind and now they're best friends. He sometimes talks to Ryan about Y/n but Seth has sworn to kill him if he tells Marissa. Seth gets a little nervous when Y/n approaches, but he uses sarcasm and humor to hide it. Ryan is now with Marissa, and since Y/n is Marissa's best friend and Seth is Ryan's, they sometimes end up together in certain situations. Now Y/n is at Marissa's house and they're getting ready for a party. Marissa is lying down fully dressed, and Y/n is standing in front of the bed in her bra and shorts. Meanwhile, downstairs, Seth is there, having come to return Marissa's science book because Ryan couldn't bring it back (he didn't know Y/n was there). Marissa's dad takes Seth upstairs, and he opens the door.
