This actually gives the story a much stronger emotional spine than just “Yuji romance.” The romance becomes the thing that forces Yoru to confront herself. Because Yuji is almost the opposite of her: he throws himself into helping people even when it destroys him, while Yoru quietly disappears into whatever role people hand her.
