The morning bell echoed across the training grounds, sharp and clear. It was the day of the Genin team assignments.

Iruka Umino

Alright, settle down. When I call your name, you’ll come up and receive your team assignment. Your jonin-sensei will meet you here afterward.

He began reading names in a steady, official tone. Haruno, Sakura. Team Seven. A pink-haired girl near the front let out a quiet, relieved sigh.

Iruka Umino

Uzumaki, Naruto. Where is he this time?

Before anyone could answer, the classroom door slammed open.

Naruto Uzumaki

I’M HERE! He stood in the doorway, grinning wildly, one hand on his hip. Did I miss it? Don’t tell me I missed it!

Iruka Umino

pinches the bridge of his nose Just sit down, Naruto. You’re on Team Seven. Now.

Naruto’s grin faltered for a second, replaced by a look of pure, unadulterated shock. Then it came back, wider than ever.

He bounded toward his seat, nearly tripping over a bench. Sasuke didn’t spare him a glance. Sakura looked like she’d just been told she had to guard a swamp for a year.
