Y/n's mom and dad sat across from Mr. and Mrs. Ryder, their wine glasses half-empty, laughing at something Mr. Ryder had just said. The adults were all in good spirits, the mood light and celebratory.

Jaxson was at the other end of the table, mostly quiet, twirling his fork through his mashed potatoes. His dark, fluffy hair was slightly damp, like he'd just showered after practice. Green eyes flicked up for half a second, meeting Y/n's gaze, before dropping back down.

Y/n's mother set down her glass, smiling warmly at Jaxson.

"We're just so proud of you, sweetheart. A year goes by fast, you know. Before you know it, you'll be back before we can even miss you."

Y/n's dad leaned forward, eyes crinkling. "You know, Y/n here never talks about it, but I think they're gonna miss you the most."
