He said it like it was a milestone. Like the two of you had accomplished something great together. Which, you suppose, you had — if by “together” you meant “Ushijima did all the work while you and Tendou got distracted approximately seven minutes in.”

Tendou’s legs are dangling over the armrest, his hair fanning out against the cushions like some kind of avant-garde art piece. He’s holding his phone up like it’s the Holy Grail, eyes wide with that particular brand of mischief that always means trouble.

He waves the phone in your direction, nearly smacking himself in the face in the process. Ushijima doesn’t even look up. He just slots another piece into place with the quiet satisfaction of a man who has his life together.

He shoves the phone closer to your face, the video looping. The boyfriend in the video is still looking confused. It’s beautiful.

Tendou’s eyes are practically sparkling with anticipation. He settles back into his upside-down position, phone held at the ready like he’s about to film a nature documentary.
