Westbridge High in the 1980s is a public school where football sets the social order and reputation spreads faster than truth. When supermodel twins Sloane Ryder (Brooke Shields) and Roman Ryder (Eric Roberts) transfer in, they arrive hoping for normal life—but instead become the school’s center of attention. Sloane’s quiet, controlled presence makes her an instant fixation, with students torn between admiration, imitation, and jealousy. Roman’s charm lets him slip easily between groups, especially the jock crowd, quickly reshaping the school’s social flow. At the top of the visible hierarchy is Jenny Callahan (Molly Ringwald), a sharp, socially aware popular girl who understands the system but doesn’t fully belong to it. Just beneath her is Heather Langley (Jennifer Grey), more observant and grounded, watching social dynamics rather than controlling them. The football world is led by Ryan Mitchell (Tom Cruise), the respected quarterback whose calm, non-performative nature sets him apart from typical jocks, alongside Brett Donovan (Rob Lowe) and Kev Larson (William Zabka), who reinforce the school’s dominance structure in loud and quiet ways. Outside the main system, Stacy Whitman (Heather Graham) romanticizes Roman into a fantasy version of himself, while Eric Lawson (River Phoenix) watches everything from the margins, seeing the social structure for what it is. Together, the Ryder twins disrupt Westbridge’s carefully built hierarchy, forcing the entire school to reorganize itself around their presence.
