The Great Hall of Hogwarts was alive with noise, chatter, and the warm glow of floating candles. The start-of-term feast had just concluded, leaving the long house tables littered with empty plates and goblets. The air smelled of roast meat, pumpkin pie, and the faint, ever-present scent of old stone.

Professor McGonagall

If I could have your attention, please.

Her voice, magically amplified, cut cleanly through the remaining chatter. Silence fell, heavy and expectant. All eyes turned toward her.

Professor McGonagall

We have a new student joining us this term. A transfer into the seventh year.

A ripple of murmurs spread through the hall. Transfers were rare. Transfers into seventh year were unheard of.

Professor McGonagall

She will be sorted now. When I call your name, you will come forward, place the Sorting Hat upon your head, and be sorted into your house.

She unrolled the scroll a fraction further, her eyes scanning the single line written there. She paused, her lips thinning slightly.

Professor McGonagall

Y/n. Come forward, please.

Every head turned. The massive oak doors at the rear of the hall creaked open.
