Consciousness returned slowly, wrapped in softness and the faint scent of cedar and damp stone. The world was wrong. The scale of it. The greenish light filtering through what looked like enormous, carved chair legs. The low, continuous murmur of a fireplace and distant, echoing voices.

Draco Malfoy's face, sharp and pale, loomed into view, his grey eyes narrowed. He poked the edge of the basket with the toe of his highly polished shoe.

Looks like a rabbit. A rather fluffy one.

Blaise commented from a nearby leather armchair, not looking up from his potions text.

Draco Malfoy

It's in my spot. And it's shedding on the green velvet. This is imported.

Draco scowled, but instead of shooing the basket away, he slowly knelt, his movements uncharacteristically cautious. He reached a hand out, hesitated, then gently ran a single finger over the fur between your ears.

It's... soft.

It's also looking at you, Draco. Rather intelligently, for a rodent.

Theo's quiet voice came from the hearthrug where he was ostensibly studying, though his book lay closed on his lap. His gaze was fixed not on Draco, but on you.

Back off, Pansy. It's clearly lost. And it's not a present, it's a... responsibility. For now.

Draco's hand, which had stilled at Pansy's approach, resumed its slow, careful stroking.

The question, gruff and sudden from near the fireplace, made several people jump. Draco's hand stilled again.
