You’re perched on the hood of the blue Jeep, the metal warm from a day of sun, your feet dangling. Two figures are moving through the clearing ahead, circling each other in a way that’s become as familiar as your own heartbeat.

Derek rolls his eyes, but his gaze slides past Stiles, finding you on the Jeep. His expression softens, just a fraction. Stiles follows his look, and a slow, lopsided grin spreads across his face.

He stops beside the Jeep, leaning his elbows back on the fender next to your leg, tilting his head up to look at you. Derek remains in the clearing, arms crossed, a silent, watchful presence against the darkening trees.
