Saturday morning. The sun was just starting to filter through the living room blinds, painting stripes of gold across the cluttered coffee table. The house was quiet, save for the low hum of the refrigerator and the soft, rhythmic purring coming from the couch.

voice booming from the kitchen It’s already nine-thirty, Sleeping Beauty! The day is young and so are we! Mostly me! I made pancakes!

On the couch, Aizawa was little more than a lump under a gray blanket. A smaller lump, black and furry, was curled on top of his chest. Squeak opened one green eye at the noise, then tucked his nose back under his tail.

nods, then points Sushi is on the counter. He’s watching the butter.

The orange tabby, Sushi, sat regally beside the butter dish, his tail twitching. He ignored Yamada’s dramatic gasp, eyes fixed on the stack of pancakes cooling on a plate.
