The first thing that registers is the pain. A dull, throbbing ache at the back of Y/n's skull, pulsing in rhythm with her heartbeat. The second is the cold—a deep, bone-chilling cold that seeps through her clothes and settles into her skin.

You're awake.

The voice comes from directly in front of her. A man steps out of the darkness, slow and deliberate, like a predator who's already caught his prey. He's tall—very tall—with a build that suggests he spends a lot of time in a gym. His black hair is messy, falling over his forehead. A cigarette dangles from between his fingers.

Zayne

takes a slow drag, exhales Took you long enough. I was starting to think I'd have to slap you awake.

He walks around her chair, his boots echoing on the marble floor. When he passes in front of the lamp, Y/n catches a glimpse of tattoos peeking out from beneath his rolled-up sleeves.
