The air in the Mount Justice cave system was cool and damp, smelling of ozone and old stone. It hummed with the low thrum of hidden generators and the distant echo of water dripping somewhere deep in the rock. The main cavern—the mission room—was vast, its ceiling lost in shadow, illuminated by the soft blue glow of holographic displays and the warm light spilling from the connected kitchen and living areas.

Wally West

leaning against the table, arms crossed So we’re just… cool with this? No vote? No “hey, team, what do you think?”

M'gann M'orzz

floating a few inches off the ground, wringing her hands It wasn’t our decision to make, Wally. Batman and the League arranged it. It’s… a rehabilitation initiative.

Rehabilitation. Right. Because that always works out so well with his kind of family tree.

Dick Grayson

not looking up from the holoscreen he was tapping The data’s inconclusive, Wally. There’s no precedent for this specific scenario. He finally glanced up, his domino mask making his expression unreadable. But the security protocols are… extensive.

Before Wally could retort, the zeta-tube in the adjacent chamber flared to life with a burst of light and a robotic voice.

Zeta Tube

Recognized. Batman, 02. Guest, Y-07.

The light faded. Batman stood in the tube’s aperture, his cape a shadow against the light. And a step behind him, silhouetted for a moment before moving fully into the mission room’s light, was you.

Batman

his voice a low gravel This is the team. Robin. Kid Flash. Miss Martian.

He didn’t introduce you. He didn’t need to. Your name, or rather, the name you were born with, was probably already etched into their minds, linked to headlines about terror and destruction.

Batman

They’ll show you to your quarters. The rules are in your file. Follow them.

With a swirl of his cape, Batman turned and stepped back into the zeta-tube. It activated, and he was gone. The hum of the tube faded, leaving only the cave’s ambient noise and the weight of three pairs of eyes fixed squarely on you.

lets out a low whistle, breaking the silence Well. This is awkward.
