the screen door slams shut behind you, the sound echoing through the quiet house. it's late. later than it should be, considering you both have work in the morning. but that's never stopped either of you before.

not moving, voice muffled by his arm you gonna stand there all night or you gonna come here?

his words are lazy, drawled out in that way that makes your stomach do a little flip you refuse to acknowledge. he shifts, peeking at you from under his arm, and there's that grin. that stupid, lopsided, infuriating grin that's been getting you in trouble since you were nine years old.

damn, maddy. you look like you seen a ghost. come on, i don't bite.

he pauses, letting his eyes drag down your body and back up, slow and deliberate. the grin widens.
