We found a bench near the ice cream stand, half in the shade of a building that's been here longer than any of us have been alive.

Jake's already got a smear of chocolate on his thumb. Lea's holding her cone like it might run away. Jungwon's sitting next to me, close enough that I can feel the warmth coming off his arm without actually touching it.

Jungwon laughs too—that warm, easy laugh that always makes something in my chest tilt sideways. He's licking his vanilla cone with the kind of focus that shouldn't be cute but somehow is.

I look away before I can think about it too long.
