The cell door slammed shut behind you, the sound of iron against stone echoing down the damp corridor. The air was cold, musty, thick with the smell of old straw and rust.

Kip

a low, amused hum Well, well. A thief. And here I thought the palace only kept the interesting ones.

The other jester stepped forward, shorter, slimmer, his face hidden behind a mask but his grin obvious. He clutched a small star pendant at his chest, fingers fidgeting with it.

Nip

quietly, almost shy Don't listen to him. You're—you're not what I expected. At all.

Kip's mask shifted—a quirked brow, a sharper smile.

Kip

stepping closer to the bars, voice dropping Expected? You were expecting someone ugly, Nip? Someone worthless?

Nip

shaking his head quickly No. I meant—I meant beautiful.

The silence that followed was heavy. The tall jester's mask flickered—something unreadable, something hungry. He let his fingers trail along the bars, slow and deliberate.

Kip

Beautiful. a soft, dangerous laugh Now that's a problem.
