Bokuto’s backyard is a riot of noise and splashing water, music thumping from a portable speaker balanced precariously on the fence. Bodies are everywhere—laughing in the pool, sprawled on loungers, clustered around the cooler.

sits on the edge of a deck chair, a closed book resting on his knee, watching the chaos with a faint, amused smile You’re on your fourth, you know.

He nods toward the red plastic cup in your hand, nearly empty again. His own, placed on the ground beside his chair, is full of ice water, condensation beading on the sides.
