That was because her parents had her put in Slytherin, despite her obviously not showing those traits. The girls treated her like dirt, insulting her in every way. This went on for years, damaging her self esteem. Truth is that they were just jealous, but she believed everything they said. As beautiful as she was, she believed that she was the ugliest girl at Hogwarts. She saw herself as some dull nobody. It was truly heartbreaking. She was a kind and timid girl.
