Y/n sat by the window, her knees pulled up to her chest, the white t-shirt hanging loose on her frame. The light blue True Religion jeans were worn soft, and the Moncler cardigan draped over her shoulders like a shield.

Across from her, Draco Malfoy sprawled with practiced elegance, his school robes already pristine despite the journey only being an hour in. Mattheo Riddle sat beside him, twirling a silver lighter between his fingers, a lazy smirk tugging at his lips. Theodore Nott was hunched over a book he wasn't really reading, and Lorenzo Berkshire had his feet up on the opposite seat, blowing smoke rings toward the ceiling with a Muggle cigarette he didn't care to hide.

"Nott, you've been staring at the same page for twenty minutes," Lorenzo drawled, exhaling a thin stream of smoke. "It's a book about— what, transfiguration theory? You gonna memorise it or actually read it?"

Theodore flipped him off without looking up.

Mattheo snorted, catching the lighter before it fell. "Leave him alone, Berkshire. Some of us actually care about passing our O.W.L.s in two years."

"Two years is a lifetime," Draco said, stretching his arms above his head. He glanced at Y/n, tilting his head slightly. "You've been quiet. Everything alright?"

The question hung in the air. His grey eyes searched her face, sharp and observant.

Through the thin fabric of her t-shirt, the faint outline of her collarbones pressed against her skin. She'd lost weight over the summer— more than any of them had expected. Her skin was paler, almost sallow beneath the warm tone it used to have.
