After surviving cancer once as a child, a teenage girl believes she has finally left it behind. But during her senior year, she receives devastating news: the cancer has returned. Her doctor tells her she can no longer play soccer, meaning she’ll miss the final season she has spent her entire life working toward. Instead of telling her teammates and friends, she keeps her diagnosis completely secret. Determined not to let cancer take everything from her, she auditions for the school play. To everyone’s surprise, she gets the female lead alongside the school’s popular male lead. Not everyone is happy about it. Another girl who wanted the role becomes resentful, and rumors begin spreading about why she was chosen. But the male lead doesn’t care about the drama. He spends more and more time with her during rehearsals, and the two slowly become inseparable. Late-night rehearsals, inside jokes, learning lines together, and performing emotional scenes bring them closer until their friendship turns into something more. But while he is falling for her, he has no idea that she is secretly fighting cancer again. As treatments begin making it harder for her to hide what she’s going through, her secret becomes increasingly difficult to keep. She knows eventually he’ll find out—but she wants to experience her final year as a normal teenager for as long as she possibly can. She may have lost her last soccer season, but she refuses to let cancer take her final chance at love, friendship, and living life on her own terms.
