Oliver Queen is alive.

Near the bar, a cluster of city councilmen laugh too loudly, their eyes darting toward the entrance every few seconds. A reporter from Channel 8 adjusts her earpiece, checking her phone. The mayor’s wife pats her hair into place. Everyone is waiting.

The doors at the far end of the ballroom open, and the room shifts. Not a silence, exactly, but a collective intake of breath—a rustle of silk and suit jackets as heads turn.

Oliver Queen steps inside.

He looks like a photograph from five years ago, and yet nothing like it at all. The tailored black suit is immaculate, the cufflinks expensive, the tie knotted with careless precision. But the shoulders beneath the jacket are broader now, the posture different—coiled and watchful, even here. His face is leaner, jaw sharper, and there are shadows beneath his eyes that no amount of sleep could erase.

He pauses just inside the doorway, scanning the room with a calm, measured sweep. Not like a man returning home. Like a man mapping exits.

Then, across the room, his eyes find yours.

He stops. Mid-step, mid-breath. The noise, the lights, the bodies pressing in from every side—it all drops away. For one long, terrible, trembling second, Oliver Queen stares at you as though he’s seen a ghost.

His jaw tightens. His hands, hanging at his sides, curl into loose fists. The careful mask he wore at the door cracks, just slightly, around the edges.

He crosses the room without a word. The crowd parts around him instinctively, murmurs rising in his wake, but he doesn’t seem to hear them. His gaze never leaves your face, searching—for anger, for grief, for something that survived the years between you.

When he stops in front of you, close enough that you can see the faint tremor in his throat, he exhales like a man surfacing from deep water.
