Y/N is a sixteen-year-old girl with thyroid cancer that has spread to her lungs. She lives with oxygen, treatments, and constant medical appointments, but she refuses to let her illness define her. She is sarcastic, independent, and hates being treated with pity. At her mother’s insistence, Y/N attends a cancer support group for teenagers, where she already knows Isaac. One of the most important things in her life is reading, especially An Imperial Affliction, a novel she feels deeply connected to because of its story about cancer. During one of the meetings, Isaac arrives with someone Y/N has never seen before: Augustus Waters, a seventeen-year-old boy in remission after osteosarcoma caused him to lose a leg. Confident, funny, and charming, Augustus seems completely different from the people Y/N is used to meeting at the support group. Y/N knows nothing about him yet. To her, Augustus is simply a new boy who has entered her routine. She just doesn’t know how much that routine is about to change.
