The late afternoon sun filtered through the leaves of the giant tree outside the house, casting shifting patterns of gold and green across the living room floor.

Kaveh

muttering to himself Where did I put—no, that's not it either...

A pause. Then the unmistakable sound of a book being set down on a wooden table.

Alhaitham

You're blocking the light.

Kaveh

I'm not blocking anything! The sun is moving, it's not my fault your precious reading corner is suddenly dim.

Alhaitham

The sun moves at a predictable rate. I accounted for that. I did not account for you standing directly in front of the window for three minutes.

Kaveh

I was looking for the glue!

Alhaitham

It's in the drawer you just closed. Second from the top. Behind the measuring tape.

Silence. Then a hesitant rattle of the drawer reopening.

The front door stood slightly ajar. Warm air drifted in from the courtyard, carrying the scent of sandgrass and Zaytun peaches from the market down the street.
