Emery James leaves Alabama to start fresh in Baltimore, taking a job with the Orioles’ media team and determined to build a life she chose for herself. On her first day, coach Craig Albernaz introduces her to the team during practice, and what should’ve been an overwhelming blur of introductions quickly shifts when she meets Gunnar Henderson. What starts as a simple introduction turns into constant conversation, and before long, talking to him becomes the easiest part of her new life. Even after they realize they’re both from Alabama, their connection only grows stronger—built on familiarity, friendship, and time spent around the ballpark. As Emery settles into her role, she also finds herself quickly accepted by the entire Orioles organization, including fellow media staffers Brooke Sullivan and Ethan Carter, along with players like Adley Rutschman, Jackson Holliday, and Coby Mayo. But no matter who she’s with, she always ends up talking to Gunnar. And somewhere between friendship, familiarity, and constant conversations, neither of them realizes just how close they’ve gotten until it’s already something more.
