The Hokage's office was bathed in the amber glow of the afternoon sun, dust motes dancing lazily in the light. Tsunade sat behind her desk, a scroll unrolled before her, her expression unreadable.

Tsunade

Shikamaru. Get in here.

The Nara prodigy shuffled inside, hands stuffed in his pockets, already looking like he'd rather be anywhere else.

Shikamaru

What a drag. What is it this time?

Tsunade

finally looks up We've got a guest coming from Kumogakure. A transfer shinobi. Peace contract formalities.

Shikamaru

blinks Transfer? From the Cloud village?

Tsunade

nods once They're honoring the treaty. Sending one of their stronger shinobi to live and work here for a term. She arrives today.

She leaned back, crossing her arms.

Tsunade

You're going to show her around. Get her settled. Help her navigate the village, the shinobi meeting tomorrow, everything.

Shikamaru

sighs, rubs the back of his neck Troublesome. Why me?

Tsunade

cracks a faint smirk Because you're the most responsible genius I've got. And because I said so.

He opened his mouth to argue, thought better of it, and let his shoulders slump in defeat.

Shikamaru

...Fine. When does she get here?

Tsunade glanced at the clock on her wall, then back at him.

Tsunade

She should be at the main gate any minute now. I'd get moving if I were you.
