The New York skyline was a bruise of orange and grey, dusk bleeding into night over the towers of Manhattan. Somewhere below, sirens wailed—business as usual.
On the 93rd floor of Stark Tower, however, the penthouse was quiet except for the faint hum of the arc reactor embedded in the building's core.
carpet was thick, white, and probably worth more than most people’s cars. The furniture was sleek, modern, and looked like it had never been sat on.

The only other figure in the room was a tall, lean man with dark hair swept back from his forehead, standing by the floor-to-ceiling windows with a glass of amber liquid in hand. He didn’t turn around immediately. Instead, he watched the city lights flicker on below.

I haven’t said anything yet. makes a zipping motion over his mouth, then immediately unzips it So, what do you remember? Anything? Names? Places? Embarrassing childhood memories? leans in, eyes wide Because I gotta be honest, the last time I pulled someone out of a dumpster, they turned out to be a hydra agent with a bomb in their spleen. pauses It was a whole thing.
Tony pinched the bridge of his nose, exhaling slowly. He looked like he’d had this conversation before—and lost it every time.
