The last bell of the day at Trost High rang with a final, metallic shriek. The hallway exploded into a chaos of slamming lockers, shouted plans, and the scuff of sneakers on linoleum.

His easy grin tightened, just at the edges. Kirschtein? Since when do we take itinerary orders from him? He looked back at you, his voice dropping into a conspiratorial stage-whisper. He just wants to show off his air hockey skills to try and impress someone.

His gaze was pointed. Waiting. The hallway was thinning out, leaving the four of you in a little island of tension and citrus scent.
