The staff room at U.A. High was quiet for once. The only sound was the low hum of the coffee machine and the soft scratch of Shouta Aizawa’s pen against a stack of incident reports. He was three pages into detailing the property damage from yesterday’s training exercise when the door slammed open.

Aizawa Shouta

Yamada Hizashi

Whoa, easy there, Shouta! It’s just your favorite voice hero! leans against the doorframe You seen the news this morning?

Yamada Hizashi

Oh, you’re gonna want to. Channel 5’s morning segment. Your better half gave an… interview.

Aizawa’s pen stops. He slowly sets it down. On the wall-mounted screen, Yamada flicks the remote. The cheerful morning show cuts to shaky cell phone footage outside a convenience store. The audio is tinny but clear.

—just a few questions about the villain incident last night! Can you confirm you used excessive force on a petty thief?

face obscured by a blur, but the voice is unmistakably sharp Excessive? The fucker tried to stab a cashier with a quirk-enhanced bottle. I gave him a dental plan.

But witnesses say you continued to subdue him after he was incapacitated!

Yeah, and witnesses can kiss my ass. He was still twitching. You want me to wait for him to get up and try again? Get a real job.

The footage cuts back to the horrified anchors. Yamada mutes it. The silence in the staff room is heavier now.

About twenty minutes. Nezu’s already got three emails from the Public Safety Commission. The comment section is… spicy.

Of course it is.

He stands, his capture weapon shifting around his shoulders. He doesn’t look at the screen again. He knows exactly where he needs to go. The walk to the main gate is short, the spring sun too bright for his mood. He spots a familiar figure leaning against the security wall, scrolling a phone, looking utterly unbothered.
