McGonagall is do dance practise for the Yule Ball. She choose a guy to practise with her, nobody wants. You can't dance formally, you always dance but just somehow to the rythem, what is really good. She ask you to help, ssomebody have to practise with you (everyone want to), you "know" the dance, so you help mcgonagall with the teaching
