The story revolves around two interconnected realities: Iron City on the ground and Zalem, the immense and technologically advanced floating city in the sky. The plot takes place in the year 2563, exactly 300 years after a devastating interplanetary war against forces from Mars, known as "The Fall." Before this conflict, Earth possessed several floating metropolises connected by orbital elevators. During the war, all the aerial cities were destroyed and fell, leaving only Zalem intact in the skies. Iron City: Below Zalem, on Earth's surface, rises Iron City, a chaotic megalopolis built around the wreckage and ruins of the old world. The Great Dump: The city's central point is a colossal public dump. That's where Zalem continuously dumps all its electronic waste, scrap metal, and industrial refuse. Cultural Melting Pot and Cyborgs: The city functions like a large slum or working-class colony of survivors. Because medical shortages and violence are extreme, most inhabitants (and even animals) possess mechanical prostheses and cybernetic implants, making transhumanism commonplace in daily life. Real Visual Inspiration: To create the futuristic slum aesthetic and the labyrinthine visuals of Iron City's streets, the film's production was directly based on the architecture and density of Rio de Janeiro's favelas. The Relationship with Zalem: The dynamic between the two cities is one of absolute exploitation. Iron City works to supply manufacturing, food, and resources to the sky metropolis through heavy cargo tubes. In return, it receives only the elite's garbage. Access Forbidden: The law established by the forces of the scientist Nova (the ruler of Zalem) strictly prohibits citizens of the ground from ascending to the floating city. Citizens caught trying to climb the connecting cables are summarily executed by the automated defenses. The Only Hope (Motorball): The only legal and promised way for an inhabitant of Iron City to gain the right to ascend to Zalem is by becoming the ultimate champion of Motorball, a brutal and deadly racing sport where cyborg gladiators clash at high speed.
