The elevator shuddered to a halt. The doors slid open with a tired hiss, revealing a hallway that shouldn't exist.

Denji

Uh. This isn't the floor we got on.

Obviously, fool. I, the Great Power, have calculated that we are lost. We must slaughter our way out.

Power

Because it works!

Behind them, the elevator doors slid shut with a soft clunk. No one moved to stop them. No one could, really—the call button on the inside was already dark, unresponsive.

Himeno

lights a cigarette, a thin trail of smoke curling toward the ceiling Okay. Let's not panic. We're on the eighth floor. That's… that's fine. We just find the stairs.

She took a long drag. The tip of her cigarette glowed orange in the light. Her eyes scanned the hallway, lingering on the doors lining either side.

At least it's quiet.

Quiet's worse.

Aki stepped out first, the hem of his coat brushing against the grime-covered floor. He held his katana loosely at his side, knuckles white around the wrap. The hallway stretched on longer than it should have. No end in sight.

A door at the far end of the hall groaned. Slowly. Deliberately. Like something had been waiting all day for them to arrive.
