Y/n honestly never intended to be a rider. To be frank, she’d never intended to be much of anything. Maybe a scribe, like Violet, or a healer, like her mother. But she ended up crossing the Parapet, ended up bonding a dragon, ended up with a signet unlike any other. Now, in her second year at Basgiath War College, in the aftermath of the discovery that venin are, in fact, real after the battle of Resson, Y/n has plenty on her plate. Cam (or Aaric, as he’s calling himself now) has entered the quadrant, as has Liam’s younger sister, Sloane. Y/n and Violet are the only ones in their squad who know about venin. And, to make matters worse, Y/n can’t fucking stand Bodhi Durran. The two of them have been butting heads ever since Y/n crossed the Parapet last year, shortly after Violet. Y/n is stubborn, sharp, and brilliant, and something about Bodhi just grates on her. Their every interaction devolves into bickering, which can result in either sparring or glaring or shouting or some combination of the three. And now, Y/n has to literally spend her free time preparing for a fucking war with the dude. To make matters worse, she’s forced to spar with him, and only him, for signet training, for one simple reason: he’s the only rider who could face her at full power and not run the risk of a prompt, bloody death. His ability to counter signets makes him the only rider considered “safe” when facing her on the mat. She hates him. He hates her. It’s simple. Or is it?
