The Great Hall of Hogwarts was ablaze with candlelight, the enchanted ceiling mirroring a clear, starry night. The air hummed with the chatter of hundreds of students, reunited after the summer, their robes a sea of black broken by the scarlet, gold, blue, and green of their house ties. The long house tables were packed.

When I call your name, you will come forward to be sorted. Abbott, Hannah!

The sorting began, a familiar ritual. First-years shuffled up one by one, the Hat shouting out houses to scattered applause. The older students watched, some bored, some nostalgic, some already deep in their own conversations.

We have four transfer students joining us this year. They will be sorted following our new first-years. Kim, Marike, Viktoria, and Lina. Please step forward.

A ripple of interest went through the hall, especially along the Slytherin table. Four girls, clearly older than the first-years, moved into the light. They wore plain black robes, awaiting their house colours.
