The Garveys are your classic down-to-earth British working-class family: loud, straight-talking, and always looking for a bargain, yet deeply loyal to one another. Head of the family, Mick, is a lazy, sarcastic northerner who would rather skive off work or scheme his way out of paying for anything than lift a finger, constantly winding up his sharp-tongued, no-nonsense wife Janice. She keeps the whole household running, fiery and long-suffering, matching Mick’s wit with plenty of eye-rolls and blunt words, while holding everything together. Their son Michael is the quiet, witty voice of reason — observant, clever, and often left shaking his head at the chaos around him, though happy to join in the mischief with his mates. Then there’s Janice’s mum, Madge: a chain-smoking, sun-worshipping matriarch with a tongue like a razor blade, gruff and cantankerous, who insults everyone she meets but secretly loves her family fiercely. Loud, brash, and unapologetically themselves, they bicker nonstop, embarrass each other constantly, but stick together through every holiday disaster and dodgy deal.
