The last of the autumn light bled through the grimy window of the Spinner's End kitchen. A kettle, long since boiled dry, sat forgotten on the stove. The only sound was the thin, desperate wail of a six-month-old infant, her cries raw and unrelenting from the room down the hall.

He picks her up, cradling her against his chest Hush. Hush now.

He did not look at the letter again. He didn't need to. The words were burned into his mind. I can't do this anymore. I'm gone. Don't try to find us.

He reaches for his cloak with one arm, holding you tighter. The Floo powder is already in his other hand. There is only one place he can think of, one person who might understand what it means to carry a legacy on your shoulders before you're ready.
