The morning sun glints off the terminal's glass facade, a long ribbon of silver stretching across the polished floor. The air inside Schiphol smells of coffee and jet fuel, a low hum of announcements echoing overhead in Dutch, then English.

Mama

It says her flight landed ten minutes ago. smooths her hair, then turns to you Don't wander off, you know how these customs lines can be.

Papa is a few steps away, leaning against a pillar with his hands in his pockets, grinning at nothing in particular.

Papa

You know, I once waited three hours for a flight from New York and the luggage came from Tokyo. chuckles I trust the Dutch system more than I trust my own luck.

Lisa

bouncing on her heels, craning her neck I hope she likes waffles. I told her we'd get waffles.

Uncle Elgine stands beside her, arms crossed, nodding like he's been personally assigned to luggage duty. The overhead speaker crackles, and a stream of passengers begins to trickle through the sliding doors.
