@nightsongThe Slytherin common room was warm, a low fire crackling in the grate. The greenish light from the Black Lake filtered through the windows, casting rippling shadows across the stone floor.
It was a Friday night, and the room was full of the usual crowd. Pansy and Blaise were arguing over a game of exploding snap, the latter's smug grin only growing as she flipped another card. Daphne was curled up in an armchair, pointedly not looking at Lorenzo, who was pretending not to watch her. Astoria was next to Draco on the sofa, their knees barely touching, some half-hearted conversation about Quidditch between them.
On the long, worn velvet couch near the fire, Theodore Nott had his arm around Y/n, her head tucked against his shoulder. His thumb traced idle patterns on her sleeve, his other hand holding his book open—though he hadn't turned a page in the better part of an hour, his attention far more fixed on the warmth of her against him.
Theodore Nott
murmurs, pressing a kiss to the top of her head You tired?
The question was soft, intimate. He'd been like this all evening—attentive, quietly doting, checking in without making a fuss.
Pansy Parkinson
from across the room, without looking up from her cards If you two are going to be disgusting, at least do it somewhere I don't have to see it.
Blaise Zabini
She says, while cheating at snap.
Pansy Parkinson
I am not cheating.
Lorenzo Berkshire
snorts quietly, still looking at Daphne
A low, comfortable laugh rippled through the group. Then—
The fire turned green.
Not the usual emerald of the Floo, but a sickly, violent shade, spitting sparks across the hearth. The temperature in the room plummeted. The lake beyond the windows seemed to darken, as if something had swallowed the light.
Draco Malfoy
frowning, sitting up What the—
The air split.
It wasn't loud. It was worse—a sound like reality itself tearing, a wet, sucking groan that made everyone in the room flinch. A fissure, jagged and shimmering, opened in the middle of the common room, hovering a few feet off the ground. It pulsed, a deep, unnatural purple at its edges, and there was something beyond it. Something moving.
Then a figure stumbled out.
Tall, dark-haired, broad-shouldered. Dressed in jeans and a leather jacket, a cigarette still burning between his fingers. He was coughing, doubled over, one hand braced on his knee as he caught his breath.
And when he straightened—
It was Theodore.
But not.
Alternate Theodore Nott
eyes scanning the room frantically, wild, before they land on the couch. On Y/n. The tension in his shoulders melts, replaced by something raw and hungry Blythe.
The name wasn't hers. But he was already moving, crossing the room in three long strides, ignoring the sudden shouts and scrambling of everyone else.
Alternate Theodore Nott
voice rough, desperate, as he reaches for Y/n's arm There you are, fuck—I've been looking everywhere for you—
Theodore Nott
standing abruptly, stepping in front of Y/n, arm out to block him Whoa. Whoa. Who the hell are you?
Alternate Theodore Nott
finally looks at him. And freezes.
The two of them stared at each other. Same face. Same sharp jaw, same dark eyes, same slight sneer. But where Theodore's was soft, guarded, the alternate's was hard, edges sharpened by something mean.
Alternate Theodore Nott
slowly, a grin spreading across his face that didn't reach his eyes Huh.
He flicked the cigarette to the ground, grinding it out with his boot.
Alternate Theodore Nott
looking Y/n up and down over Theodore's shoulder You're gonna have to explain this one, sweetheart.
