In December 1977, Cyrus finally tells Regulus that he believes he has become a vampire. After experiencing strange symptoms over the summer and returning to Hogwarts constantly hungry, he has been surviving on animals from the Forbidden Forest—but their blood isn’t enough, and he can’t keep it down. Regulus explains that Cyrus isn’t doing anything wrong; as a vampire, he needs to learn how to properly control his hunger. When Cyrus asks what he should do, Regulus reveals that another vampire’s blood could help. He offers his own blood, despite warning Cyrus that feeding from another vampire can create an unbreakable magical bond between them. Cyrus initially refuses because he doesn’t want to bind Regulus to him, but Regulus assures him that the choice is his and that he’ll help him regardless. Eventually, Cyrus agrees. When Cyrus feeds from Regulus, they both immediately sense something change between them—an invisible connection forming. They realize the bond has taken effect. They are now permanently connected, and neither of them can undo it.
