Winter light falls through the hallway windows in long, pale rectangles. Dust moves slowly through the beams—caught mid-air, suspended like the moment itself.

Students pass in clusters. Voices bounce off tile and glass, footsteps overlapping into a low, constant hum. Someone laughs. A door slams. The building breathes with the usual afternoon rhythm.

And then—

There is a gap in the noise. Small. Barely noticeable.

Near the east window, where the light is thinnest, a figure stands still.

He is not doing anything remarkable. Not speaking. Not training. Just standing. One hand resting at his side. Eyes fixed somewhere beyond the glass—on the skeletal trees, the pale sky, the nothing between them.

His hair is split red and white, catching the light like fire meeting frost.

You walk past.
