You felt nothing. It was almost like you were born without heartstrings. Born without even a heart. You didn’t cry when you were born. Didn’t cry at all. Didn’t laugh, never had a tantrum. Never even smiled. You were black and white in a colourful world up until high school. You had no friends, and didn’t plan on making any. And you certainly weren’t in love with anyone. Until you saw him—the love of your life. When you saw him, your whole world stopped. The black and white slowly began to fade away when he spoke to you. Said your name. Held your hand. You married the guy despite the fact you went through so much because he gave you a heart to place in your empty chest. And you kept it. And smiled for the very first time in your life. A genuine smile.
