Levi stood in the middle of the living room, surveying the space with a critical eye. The furniture was worn but functional. The kitchen counter had a stain he would need to scrub. The window let in enough light that he could work without turning on a lamp during the day.

It was manageable.

The door buzzed.

It was the kind of sharp, impatient buzz that meant someone had pressed it twice. Levi frowned, walked to the intercom, and pressed the talk button without saying anything.

Levi pressed the button.
